Coaching centre director, 3 others land in jail

Detective Branch of Barishal Metropolitan Police arrested four, including a coaching centre director, with Phensedyl and Yaba in two raids on Friday night, and the court sent the four to jail in two cases lodged by the police under the Narcotic Control Act on Saturday.

Sub-inspector Delwar Hossain said a team of the detectives carried out a raid on a coaching centre named Faith Shikkha Paribar on the ground floor of Khan Villa on Hospital Road in Barisal city early Saturday.

The detectives recovered 22 bottles of phensedyl, and arrested Shamim Ahmed, 40, the director of the coaching centre, and his associates Babul Talukdar, 42, and Matiar Rahman, 32.

In another raid on a residential house on Nazrul Islam Road, another team of detectives arrested Sheuli Begum, 26, and recovered 150 pieces of Yaba tablet.

Sohel Farazi, 30, husband of Sheuli and a drug peddler, managed to flee from the scene during the raid, said Sub-inspector Mohiuddin leading the drive.
