A day-long writers’ conference and book fair was held on Friday at Bangladesh Development Society Auditorium in Barishal city.
Barishal city-based literary organisation Amader Lekhalekhi and Patuakhali-based Dakkhiner Kobial jointly organised the programme styled Dakkhin Bangla Grantha Utsab where about hundred writers and poets from six districts of Barishal division participated and displayed their works.
The day-long programme was divided in two sessions respectively presided over by convener of the programme poet Shafiq Amin and president of Dakkhiner Kobial Jahangir Hossain Manik.
The organisers greeted the participants with flower, uttarios and crests.
Poet Sardar Faruk was present as the chief guest and poet Shahin Reza was present as the discussant at a discussion session conducted by poet Kamrunnahar Munni.
Among others, poet Radheshyam Devnath from Patuakhali, Mahmuda Khanam from Jhalakathi, Alok Mitra, Saifullah Nobin from Pirojpur, Bhaskar Saha, Begum Faizunnahar Shelly from Barishal, Arnob Ashik, Mahbub Lovlu, Nasim Anwar from Dhaka attended different sessions as special guests.
Speakers and participants stressed the importance of organising such programmes regularly.
Such gatherings and view exchange programmes can provide grassroots writers the much needed platform to connect with different writers and showcase their works, they said.
