Two top bosses of Telenor, the parent company of the country’s leading mobile operator Grameenphone, on Sunday urged the government to introduce technology neutrality in all spectrum bands to provide high-quality mobile internet for all.
They made the call while holding a meeting with state minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim at the secretariat in the city, said a Grameenphone news release.
Telenor ASA chair Gunn Wærsted and Telenor Group president and chief executive officer Sigve Brekke were in Dhaka on a one-day visit to Grameenphone and met the state minister as part of their trip.
Grameenphone CEO Petter B Furberg and GP chief corporate affairs officer Mahmud Hossain were also present during the meeting.
During discussions, Wærsted and Brekke reiterated the importance of working together by the government, businesses and organisations to stimulate digital growth and build shared value in Bangladesh.
Calling for the introduction of technology neutrality in all spectrum bands to provide high-quality mobile internet for all, Brekke stressed that Telenor was committed to continuing to support the GP in bolstering the Bangladesh economy and ‘playing an active role in the digitalisation of the country.’
The meeting also discussed the state of the telecom industry in Bangladesh, the opportunities for digital empowerment, and Telenor’s long-term commitment to Bangladesh through Grameenphone and the continuing digital transformation of the telecommunication industry.
