Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists brought out a procession at Islamic University in Kushtia on Tuesday demanding punishment of the university branch Chhatra League general secretary Rakibul Islam Rakib.
More than a hundred activists took to the streets after rumours swift the campus over a reported audio conversation between Rakib and an unidentified person where they talked about bribery, corruption and the processes how Rakib had been running a racket of graft on the campus, in court and offices, and inside the BCL.
The conversation went viral on social media and video sharing sites.
Later, the activists, led by IU BCL unit former organising secretary Shisir Islam Babu, met pro-vice-chancellor M Shahinoor Rahman and demanded action against Rakib.
They would go on tougher movement if the university authorities failed to take action against Rakib, Shisir Islam Babu said.
About the audio clip, Rakib said that it was merely a conspiracy against him by a group of people.
IU pro-vice-chancellor Shahinoor Rahman, also the acting vice-chancellor of the university, said that they would take legal action against Rakib after holding a discussion with the vice-chancellor.
News items on two audio conversations of Rakib with a union Awami League leader were published in some daily newspapers.
