Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday added out of favour national opener Soumya Sarkar and off-spinner Mehedi Hasan in Bangladesh’s 16-men A team for Sri Lanka tour, scheduled from next week.
Mominul Haque will lead the side during the tour, which included two four-day matches and three one-dayers
Both Soumya and Mehedi were dropped from the national team set-up on the back of disappointing performances in recent times.
Soumya was dropped after poor performances in the first two matches in the on-going tri-nation Twenty20 series, making four against Zimbabwe in the series opener before receiving a golden duck against Afghanistan on Sunday.
He tried his luck with bowling in the Afghanistan match, but ended up leaking 33 runs in just two overs.
Soumya earlier failed to impress in the one-off Test against Afghanistan, scoring 17 and 15 respectively in both the innings and remained wicket-less in the match.
Mehedi wasn’t picked for the tri-nation series after an underwhelming show in the Afghanistan Test, claiming 1-73 and 2-35 in both innings respectively and making 11 and 12 with the bat.
Mehedi also had a poor show against Sri Lanka in the preceding three-match one-day international series, managing to claim two wickets in the series and 53 runs with the bat.
This will be the last tour for the A team before the India series where the Tigers will play three Twenty20 internationals and two Tests against them.
Bangladesh A team will fly for Sri Lanka today.
