A minor girl died of dengue on Tuesday while at least 615 new dengue patients were hospitalised around the country in the 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, 2,485 dengue patients were taking treatment at different hospitals across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
So far this year, a total of 82,454 people were hospitalised with dengue, most of them in the capital. Of them, 79,766 or 97 per cent have recovered from the ailment.
On Tuesday afternoon, 11-year-old Tarin, daughter of Nasir Talukdar from Goshairhat in Shariatpur, died of the infection at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Her aunt said she was admitted to the DMCH on September 12 and died at the hospital ICU at about 2:45pm on Tuesday.
Since January, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research have received reports of 203 suspected dengue deaths. But, accordin to media reports death toll was much higher.
The DGHS on Tuesday said that at least 615 new dengue patients were hospitalised at places across the country in the 24 hours till 8:00am on Tuesday.
Of them, 198 were hospitalised in Dhaka and 417 in other parts of the country.
About 2,485 patients are currently being treated at hospitals across the country, with 993 in the capital and 1,492 in the districts.
DGHS data show that 11,357 persons were infected with dengue in the past 17 days of September while the number of infections was 52,636 in August.
