Trains derail in Sylhet, Mymensingh

Rail communications with Mymensingh snapped for an hour as a passenger train derailed near Mymensingh city and another train derailed at Maijgaon in Sylhet on Tuesday.

Mymensingh railway police office-in-charge Mosharraf Hossain said that a compartment of the Tista Express train on Dhaka-Dewanganj route derailed two kilometres away from the Keoatkhali Bridge around 11:00am.

Later, the compartment was salvaged by relief train and train movement on the line resumed around 12:00pm, he said.  

New Age correspondent in Mymensingh reported the incident of derailment forced the Haor Express on Mohonganj-Dhaka route to remain stuck at Mymensingh station for an hour.

New Age correspondent in Sylhet reported that a compartment of the Jalalabad Express on Chattogram-Sylhet route derailed at Maijgaon rail station in Fenchuganj upazila around 12:30pm on Tuesday.

Rail communications on the line were kept normal through the second and third loop line, said Sylhet railway station manager Ataur Rahman.

The derailed compartment was salvaged at 2:00pm and then the train again started for its destination, he added.

Earlier, the Upaban Express on Sylhet-Dhaka route derailed on September 4 at Mollickpur area under Fenchuganj and on August 16 at Maijgaon rail station, said officials.
