Bangladesh began their AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship 2019 campaign with a defeat when they lost to hosts Thailand 0-1 in their Group A match at the Chonburi Stadium in Thailand on Sunday.

After the barren first half, forward Thawanrat Promthongmee scored the all-important goal in the 58th minute from a set piece.

Bangladesh defender Anai Mogini committed a foul against Thai midfielder Janista Jinantuya near to the right side of the box and South Korean referee Kim Yu Jeong awarded a free-kick to Thailand.

Bangladesh forward Tohura Khatun squandered a chance in the third minute when her shot from right-side of the six-yard box rebounded from the crosspiece.

Thailand forward Suchavadee Chomoaeng missed a penalty in the 86th minute after Bangladesh defender Akhi Khatun brought down Chomoaeng inside the box.

Bangladesh will face Japan in their next match at the IPE Chonburi Stadium on September 18.
