The High Court Division on Wednesday said that it would monitor what action the government takes against Pabna police station officer in charge and his associates for forcing a married woman to marry her rapist instead of recording the rape case against the offender and his cohorts.
A vacation bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Khairul Alam directed Supreme Court lawyer Jamiul Haque Faisal to report to it after one week if the government takes no action against the rapists and the OC and his associates.
The bench issued the directive after Faisal prayed for suo moto action against the government and the OC.
Lawyer Faisal submitted that Pabna sadar police station’s officer-in-charge Obaidul Huq and his associates forced the rape victim to marry her rapist.
He submitted that unless the OC was no probes could be held against him and his accomplices.
On September 5, the OC forced the victim to marry rapist M Russel.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the law enforcers arrested Russel and Ghontu after recording a rape case against five people, including Md Russel and Ghontu for raping the 33-year-old married woman and mother of three children, said Md Rafikul Islam, superintendent of police of Pabna.
