Bangladesh women’s hockey team began their Women’s Junior AHF Cup 2019 campaign with a 0-3 defeat against hosts Singapore at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium on Monday.
Bangladesh, who are taking part at any girl’s hockey international event for the first time, kept their post intact up to the second quarter before conceding the first goal in the 40th minute when Johana Hajaratih scored a field goal for Singapore.
SIM Valerie scored a brace in the fourth and final quarter with a penalty corner and a field goal in the 45th and 58th minutes respectively.
In their remaining matches of the six-nation meet, Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka on September 10 before facing Hong Kong, Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei on September 11, 13 and 15 respectively.
The top two teams of the competition will qualify for the Women’s Junior Asia Cup in October 2020 in Japan and will join China, India, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Thailand, who have already qualified directly based on their results in the Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2015.
