Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad organised its biennial Tagore conference on Friday at Barishal city.
Cultural activist Manabendra Batobayal inaugurated the day-long programme by hoisting the national flag at Barishal Government Girls School ground in the morning.
A general meeting was held at the hall room of the school.
The second session of the programme was held at the auditorium of the school in the evening.
Deputy commissioner of Barishal S M Ajiar Rahman, and cultural personality S M Iqbal, among others, were present as guests at the event.
The organisers honoured Tagore researcher Dr Kazi Mozammel Hossain at the programme, presided over by president of Barishal branch of JRSSP Kajal Ghosh.
The speakers emphasised the importance of promoting Tagore songs for combating foreign cultural aggression, social anomalies and religious bigotry. They also urged scholars to carry out more research on Tagore’s philosophy and songs.
Artistes entertained the audience presenting popular Tagore songs and poems.
Besides, JRSSP held a workshop and Tagore song competition at Barishal Shikkhak Bhaban Auditorium on Thursday. The prize giving ceremony was held on Friday.
