The woman allegedly raped by a police officer at Sharsha upazila told journalists on Friday that she could not tell police the name of the suspected sub-inspector out of fear.
The woman said this after a couple of days of filing a rape case against four men without mentioning the name of the sub-inspector, Khairul Islam.
Jashore police superintendent Mainul Haque told journalists that the policeman would be punished if he was found guilty.
The case was shifted to the police bureau of investigation, he added.
Meanwhile, a team of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, led by sports affairs secretary Aminul Islam and executive member Nipun Roy visited the victim at her house and talked to her on Friday.
The rape incident was proved in a medical test at Jashore General Hospital on Thursday.
Later, additional police superintendent Salahuddin Sikder said sub inspector Khairul was withdrawn and a three member probe body was formed.
The housewife 30, of Laxmanpur village under Sharsha upazila of Jashore, was raped allegedly by Khairul and his associates at her home at about 2:30am on September 3.
She filed a case on September 4 naming three and against an unidentified man, dropping the name of sub inspector Khairul posted at Gorpara police camp under Sharsha police station.
The accused are Abdul Kader, 40, and Abdul Latif, 50, of Laxmanpur, Kamruzzaman, 40, of Chatkapota village, under Sharsha upazila and an unidentified man.
SI Khairul kept going to the house of the victim after the police arrested her husband in a case on August 25.
