2 die in fire at Ramu shop

The owner of a shop and its salesperson were burnt to death inside the shop at Garjania Bazar of Ramu in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.

Shop owner Firoj Ahmed, 53, son of Lal Mia of village Jamchari of Kchapia union of Ramu, and salesperson Anwar Hossain, 16, son of Noor Kader of village Sakmonira at Kchapia, were sleeping inside the shop when the fire broke out, said police.

Ramu police station officer-in-charge Abul Khair said the fire broke out at four shops at about 2:30pm.

Local people and fire fighters managed to douse the fire after more than an hour, but Firoz and Anwar had already died inside their shop.

Ramu upazila nirbahi officer Prony Chakma and OC Abul Khair visited the spot and the UNO donated Tk 25,000 to each of the victim shop owners.
