A total of eight candidates would vie for the post of the president and 19 others for the general secretary in the upcoming national council session of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, scheduled to be held on September 14.
The final list of the candidates was published on Tuesday after scrutiny and withdrawal of candidature that ended Monday, a member of the JCD election conducting committee said.
Kazi Raonaqul Islam Sraban, Hafizur Rahman, Md Fazlur Rahman Khokon, Riyad Md Tanvir Reza Rubel, Md Ershad Khan, Mahmudul Hasan Bappi, SM Sajid Hasan Babu and ABM Mahmud Alam would contest for the post of president.
Zakirul Islam Zakir, Md Karimul Huq Nayeem, Majedul Islam Rumon, Daliya Rahman, Md Aminur Rahman Amin, Sheikh Abu Taher, Shah Newaz, Sadiqur Rahman, KM Sakhawat Hossain, Sirajul Islam, Md Iqbal Hossain Shyamol, Md Jewel Hawlader (Saif Mahmud Jewel), Md Hasan (Tanjil Hasan), Munshi Anisur Rahman,
Md Mizanur Rahman Sharif, Sheikh Md Moshiur Rahman Rony, Mustafizur Rahman, Sohel Rana, and Kazi Mazharul Islam would contest for the post of general secretary.
For the first time in the organisation’s history, the president and general secretary would be elected through direct ballots.
After publishing the list, JCD insiders said a number of candidates had left Dhaka for different districts for campaign.
According to the schedule, the candidates would be able to campaign between September 3 and September 12.
On June 3, BNP dissolved the Chhatra Dal central committee and disqualified individuals having passed secondary or equivalent examinations before 2000 from the becoming a member of the next committee.
