Sirajganj land office authorities initiated an investigation against a sub-registrar and other land officials of Shahjadpur upazila for their alleged involvement in bribery and corruption.

The action was taken after a video caught the officials taking bribes from sellers and buyers went viral in social media recently.

Sub-registrar Subrata Kumar Das and copyist Sumon were seen taking bribes at the upazila land office from land sellers and buyers in the video, which was posted on Facebook by Shahjadpur upazila unit president of Muktijoddha Santan Command Sohel Rana.

District registrar Abul Kalam Monjurul Islam told reporters on Friday that they had started an investigation.

Subrata claimed that the video was doctored and alleged that Sohel Rana made the video to harass him as he denied undue privilege to Sohel Rana.

Sohel Rana said the video showed real picture of how Subrata and his subordinate officers take bribe from people who go to them for land related works.

Sohel alleged that Subrata was now threatening him with life and implicating him in false cases.
