Man held for vandalising idol at temple

A young man was handed over to police for vandalising Radha-Krishna idol in a Hindu temple in Rangasree village under Bakerganj upazila of Barishal district on early Sunday.

Abul Kalam, officer-in-charge of Bakerganj police station, said local people caught the accused, Sagar Fakir, 26, red handed while vandalising `Radha Krishna’ idol and some musical instruments in the temple.

Police produced the arrestee before the court and the court sent him to jail.

Barishal district police additional superintendent Anwar Hossain, visiting the area on Sunday noon, talked to the locals and said police already started investigation into the incident.

Samir Kumar Dey, priest of the temple, lodged a case in this connection with Bakerganj police station.

The complainant alleged that the Radha-Krishna temple of the area was locked and the man, breaking the lock, entered inside the temple. He vandalised the idol of Radha-Krishna and some musical instrument of the temple.

Local people, hearing the sound of breaking items, rushed to the spot and caught the accused red and handed over him to police, the priest added.
