Padhun Nissanka’s unbeaten 115 off 78 balls outclassed Saif Hassan’s 117 off 130 as Bangladesh Emerging team conceded a seven-wicket defeat under Duckworth-Lewis Method in the third match to lose the three-match one-day series against their Sri Lankan counterparts 1-2 in Khulna on Saturday.
Saif struck four fours and seven sixes in his brilliant innings and received a decent support from Afif Hossain, who made unbeaten 68 off 70 balls that powered the Bangladeshi side to 269-5 in their stipulated overs.
Sri Lanka were set a revised target of 199 runs in 28 overs after rain interrupted the game but the visitors easily reached 199-3 with four overs to spare.
Opener Nissanka struck eight fours and five sixes in his innings and Minod Bhanuka also made 55 off 32 balls to help the visitors get an easy win in the series-deciding contest.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh HP team lost opener Mohammad Naim (six) early in their innings but a 74-run second-wicket stand between Saif and skipper Nazmul Hossain (39) steadied the innings.
Bangladesh lost two quick wickets but Saif, pairing with Afif, put 125 runs for the fourth wicket and took Bangladesh to a strong finish before rain curtailed Sri Lanka’s innings.
Nissanka gave the visitors a powerful start and he, along with Bhanuka, added 122 runs in just 77 balls for the third-wicket to help them reach closer to the victory.
None of the Bangladeshi bowlers could trouble Sri Lankan batting line-up as the visitors raced towards victory with 24 balls to remain, completing a 2-1 series win.
Both teams will proceed to the two four-day match series, with the first match commencing from August 27 at the same venue and the second one taking place in Cox’s Bazar from September 3.
