Bangladesh Women’s Handball team will fly for India on Monday to take part in the 8th Asian Women’s Youth Handball Championship 2019 beginning in the Indian city of Jaipur on August 21.
Bangladesh were placed in Group A alongside holders South Korea, seven-time runners-up Japan, Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei while Group B is comprised of hosts India, China, Kazakhstan, Nepal and Mongolia.
Though this will be Bangladesh’s maiden appearance in the tournament, coach Touhidur Rahman believed that his girls would do well in the 10-nation competition.
‘We are going to take part in this competition for the first time... I believe the girls will do well in the competition,’ said Touhidur.
Bangladesh captain Alpona Akter was also hopeful of doing well in the competition.
‘We worked hard a lot. Our main task will be to give our best in the competition,’ she said.
Bangladesh will begin their campaign against defending champions
South Korea on the opening day before facing Japan on August 23 and Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan on August 25 and 26 respectively.
BHF general secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor disclosed all the details during a press conference at the Shaheed M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium on Saturday.
