Former acting mayor of the then Gazipur municipality Md Abdul Karim and more than 100 of his followers joined Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday.

Karim, who contended for Awami League nomination in the post of ward councilor in the previous Gazipur City Corporation election, joined BNP ceremonially at the BNP chairperson’s office at Gulshan in Dhaka.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir welcomed Karim and the activists offering flower bouquet.

Welcoming Karim to BNP, Fakhrul said joining of a popular leader like Karim was a remarkable incident for BNP and hoped that the party would be strengthened through his joining.

Karim said that he joined BNP to fight for re-establishing democracy in the country. Gazipur city BNP president Hasan Uddin Sarker presided over the programme.
