Kolkata giants East Bengal FC, Mohun Bagan Football Club and Mohammedan Sporting Club confirmed their participation for the third edition of the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football, scheduled to be held in Chattogram in October this year.
A total of eight teams — three from Bangladesh, three from India and two from other Asian countries — are expected to take part in this tournament. All the matches will be held at MA Aziz Stadium.
Mohun Bagan confirmed their participation on Friday while Mohammedan and East Bengal on Saturday informed chief co-ordinator of the tournament and organising club Chattogram Abahani director Tarafder Ruhul Amin.
‘Mohun Bagan and Kolkata Mohammedan have already signed the deed of consent with us. East Bengal FC have not signed yet, but they have given verbal consent,’ said Tarafder.
The three local clubs are the Bangladesh Premier League champions Bashundhara Kings, runners-up Abahani Limited and host Chattogram Abahani.
Each team will receive $ 10,000 as participation money while the champions and runners-up will get $50,000 and $30,000 respectively.
Hosts Chattogram Abahani clinched the title of the first edition in 2015 by beating East Bengal by 3-1 goals while TC Sports Club of Maldives clinched the second edition title with a 4-2 win against Pocheon Citizen FC of South Korea in 2017.
