Abdur Rokib Montu has been elected as the general secretary of the Bangladesh Athletic Federation defeating his rivals SM Shadat Hossain Sohel and Shah Alam in the pools held at the National Sports Council on Saturday.
Montu got 96 votes while Sohel and Alam got 19 and 2 votes respectively where 117 councillors, out of 120, exercised their mandates. This was the first federation election since 2013.
A total of 42 candidates fought in the election against 28 posts - five vice-presidents, one general secretary, two joint secretaries, one treasurer and 19 members - where the montu-led panel got absolute majorities by winning in all posts.
Among the other office bearers, Nuruddin Chawdhury Nayon (111), Furukul Islam (96), Jayedul Alam, (93), SM Murtoza Rashidi Dara (93) and Md Tofajjol Hossan (80) have been elected as vice-presidents.
Farid Khan Chowdhury (95) and Mizanur Rahman (80) have been elected Joint Secretaries while Jamal Hossan (88) was elected Treasurer.
The elected 19 executive members are: Nozir Ahmed Mollik (110), Saeed Hasan Loban (109), Aminul Islam (109), Najimul Haque Najim (107), Rafiqullah Aktar Milon (107), Shamsuddoha Mamun (107), Abdul Mannan Mani (107), Aktaruzzaman Mridha Polash (106), Yousuf Khan Pathan (105), Lutfur Rahmna Babu (105), Mojibur Rahman (105), Kamal Uddin (104), Habibur Rahman Bhuyan (104), Farhad Jesmin Liti (103), Saifur Rahman Rajjaq (102), Shamima Sattar Mimu (101), Mahbuba Hossain Beli (93), Jatin Kumar Das (90) and Shrinibas Haldar (90).
