The annual budget for the Chittagong City Corporation amounting to Tk 2,485 crore 91 lakh and 78 thousand has been announced for the 2019-20 fiscal.
City mayor AJM Nasir Uddin announced the budget at the Theatre Institute Chattogram on Tuesday.
This was the last budget of the fifth elected council.
The proposed budget allocated Tk 1616 crore for development work, said the mayor.
In the previous fiscal of 2018-2019, the CCC budget was Tk 2425 crore 42 lakh and 82 thousand, of which Tk 1,363 crore was allocated for development projects.
The mayor said that in the last fiscal, Tk 851 crore 25 lakh was handed over to the district administration for land acquisition for the canal excavation from Bohoddarhat to Karnaphuli river.
Construction of 59 kilometers road, 2.20 kilometers retaining wall, 14 kilometers drain, four bridges and two culverts are going on under the projects.
The mayor said 49 kilometers road, 3 kilometers drain, two culverts, one foot bridge with escalator, 30 kilometers long guarder bridge have been constructed in different areas of the port city. Announcing the budget, AJM Nasir said industries have expanded in the port city in course of time, commercial activities have increased and demands of the city dwellers have also skyrocketed.
He said that budget is not only a document of income and expenditure; it also reflects people’s desire for development.
“With our limited resources, we are giving our level best efforts to meet the demands of the city dwellers,” he said.
CCC chief executive officer Md Shamsuddoha, chief engineer lieutenant colonel Md Mohiuddin Ahmed, panel mayor Hasan Mahmud Hasni, councillors of different wards were present in the budget session.
