Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday added pacer Shafiul Islam in the Bangladesh squad for their forthcoming three-match one-day international series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to start on Friday in Colombo.
Shafiul, who was with the Bangladesh A team in Chattogram for a five-match one-day series against Afghanistan A team, is expected to join the squad today in Colombo, informed a BCB spokesman.
Chief selector Minhajul Abedin told New Age that the management asked for an additional pacer for the series and they picked Shafiul as par the requirement.
‘Team management asked for an additional pacer so we picked Shafiul for the one-day series,’ Minajul informed.
Bangladesh earlier named a 14-member squad for the Sri Lanka series and later included pacer Taskin Ahmed and all-rounder Farhad Reza as replacements of injured Mashrafee bin Murtaza and Mohammad Saifuddin.
Shafiul last played for the Tigers an ODI match was back in October, 2016 against England in Chattogram and despite being in the team for quite a few series after that he did not feature in a match since then.
