Indian singer and folk researcher Subhendu Maity is going to entertain music lovers of Dhaka and Rajshahi.
He will perform at Chhayanaut Cultural Centre on Saturday and Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.
The event titled ‘Bangla Gaaner Parampara’ will be organised by Kristi Foundation.
The folk singer will be discussing about various forms of folk culture, arts, aesthetics and songs. He will also be talking about the impact folk culture has on today’s society.
Apart from this he will perform some of his songs at the end of the discussions.
Subhendu Maity was born in Medinipur, Nandi Gram of West Bengal, India right before second world war began.
Subhendu’s admiration for the struggle of people led him to become involved with peoples’ songs and he subsequently joined politics. He travelled to Kolkata in the ‘60s to pursue higher studies. In the ‘90s, he left politics and pursued music fulltime.
