Different factions of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal on Sunday observed Taher Day with various programmes marking the 43rd anniversary of death colonel Abu Taher.
The freedom fighter and commander of sector 11 during the war of independence, Abu Taher, was hanged in the Dhaka central jail after a military trial on July 21 in 1976.
Jatiya Samajtanrik Dal factions said that following a farcical trial, the military government of Ziaur Rahman had killed Taher who was the architect of the uprising of the people and soldiers of November 7, 1975.
Hasanul Haq Inu-led JSD faction held a discussion at Colonel Taher Auditorium at the party’s central office, in Dhaka, with its vice president Meer Hossain Akter in the chair.
Workers Party of Bangladesh president Rashed Khan Menon, Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, JSD general secretary Shirin Akhter, Awami League MP and journalist Muhammad Shafiqur
Rahman, JSD central leaders Anwar Hossain and Nurul Akhter, among others, took part in the discussion.
Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal also held a discussion meeting at Shishu Kalyan Parishad auditorium with its president Sharif Nurul Ambia in the chair.
Nazmul Haque Prodhan, general secretary of the faction, Communist Kendra convener Wajedul Islam Khan, Workers Party politburo member Quamrul Ahsan and others took part at discussion.
ASM Abdur Rob-led JSD faction also held a discussion meeting at its central office in the capital where central leaders Khalilur Rahman, Siraj Miah, SM Ansar Uddin among others, took part in the discussion.
