Bangladesh’s Ariful eliminated in breaststroke heat

Bangladesh swimmer Ariful Islam was eliminated from the race of men’s 100m breaststroke in the 18th FINA World Championships 2019 as he placed 78th among 87 competitors in the event held in Gwangju, South Korea on Sunday.

Ariful competed in the second heat of the event and clocked 1:07:74 minute to be placed fourth among 10 swimmers. He will compete in the 50m freestyle event of the meet on July 26.  

The two other Bangladesh swimmers Jewel Ahmed and Junayna Ahmed will start their campaign in their respective events on July 22 and 24 respectively.

Jewel will compete in the men’s 50m and 100m breaststroke while Junayna in the women’s 50m and 200m butterfly event. 

Ariful reached in South Korea on July 18 from Paris where he is involved in an International Olympics Solidarity Scholarship Programme.
