Country’s new footballing powerhouse Bashundhara Kings will clinch the Bangladesh Premier League title in their maiden appearance if they beat Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra at the Sylhet Stadium today.

Kings are currently leading the 13-team league table with 58 points from 20 outings, seven points ahead of holders Abahani Limited, who have played 21 games.  Sheikh Russell are lying in third with 42 points from 20 outings.

A win against Russell today will take Kings to 61 points which will take them beyond Abahani’s reach to topple them.

The Sky Blues have three matches left and if they win all those they can only gather 60 points, which will not be enough.

Kings have been ruthless throughout the season as they are still unbeaten with 19 wins and a goalless draw against Team BJMC.

But Kings’ Spanish head coach Oscar Bruzon Barreras doesn’t want to put extra-pressure on his charges ahead of today’s tie.

‘If I tell my boys about the title win, it could put them under extra-pressure,’ said Bruzon to New Age.

‘Instead, we want to keep the team spirit. We are ready for this match and want to maintain out winning streak. Sheikh Russell defence is strong, but it will not be difficult for our attackers,’ the coach added.

The Spaniard also informed that forward Motin Mia will not be available for today’s match through injury. He will be replaced by Tawhidul Alam.

Kings began the season by lifting the Independence Cup beating Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra by 2-1 goals in the final in December 2018.
