A Sylhet court on Thursday sentenced a young man to death in a case filed for killing two brothers over previous enmity.
The condemned convict, Kamrul Islam, 35, a resident of Meherpur village in Golapganj upazila of the district, was on the dock when the verdict was pronounced in the afternoon.
Additional public prosecutor Nizam Uddin informed New Age of the court order and said the additional district and sessions judge Md Aminul Islam also sentenced Kamrul’s relative Ranu Miah to three-year imprisonment in the verdict.
‘The court, however, acquitted two female accused from the charge as the allegations brought against them were not proved in the court,’ Nizam said.
According to the prosecution, Kamrul hacked his neighbour Rubel Ahmad and his brother Faruk Ahmad severely on February 12, 2015 over previous enmity. The victims died after they were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital on that day.
The victims’ sister Nazira Begum filed a murder case with Golapganj police on the next day against four persons and the police submitted charge-sheet against them on June 20 in the same year.
The court handed down the verdict after completion of recording witness testimonies and cross examination, Nizam said.
