The seventh death anniversary of the late writer, playwright and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed will be observed today.
Different organisations will observe the day by organising different programmes.
Himu Paribhan, a platform of fans of Humayun Ahmed, will organise day-long programme in 40 districts across the country. Besides, the Dhaka, Gazipur and Narshindi branches of Himu Paribahan will place floral wreaths on the grave of Humayun Ahmed at Nuhash Palli, Gazipur in the morning.
Anyaprakash along with other publishers will place floral wreaths on Humayun Ahmed’s grave at 10:30am. Following which, a milad mahfil will also be held at Nuhash Palli.
TV channels will telecast special programmes marking the day.
Channel-i will telecast live music show Gaaney Gaaney Shuru at 7:30 am, celebrity talk show Taroka Kathan at 12:30 pm, along with a music show featuring playback songs from Humayun Ahmed directed films.
Humayun Ahmed, born in Kutubpur of Netrakona district on November 13 in 1948, ruled the hearts of Bangla fiction readers for over four decades. He wrote a total of 200 fictions in his lifetime.
He was also a distinguished dramatist, film and drama serial maker. A number of drama serials directed by Humayun Ahmed including Ei Shob Din Ratri, Bohubrihi, Ayomoy and Kothao Keu Nei were aired on BTV.
Shonkhonil Karagar (1992) is the first film made by Humayun Ahmed. Among his notable films are Aguner Parashmoni, Srabon Megher Din, Dui Duari, Shyamol Chhaya and others. Ghetuputra Kamola (2012) was the last film directed by Humayun Ahmed.
Humayun Ahmed received numerous awards including Lekhak Shibir Prize (1973), Bangla Academy Award (1981), Shishu Academy Award, Jainul Abedin Gold Medal, Michael Madhusudan Medal (1987), Bacsas Prize (1988), Humayun Qadir Memorial Prize (1990), National Film Award (Best Story 1993, Best Film 1994, Best Dialogue 1994), Ekushe Padak (1994) and others.
Humayun Ahmed passed away on July 19, 2012 at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, USA after suffering from colon cancer.
