A student of Rajshahi University was mugged on campus by some unidentified miscreants on Sunday night.
The victim was identified as Saidur Rahman, second year student of library science and information management department of the university.
Saidur told New Age that a group of three youths blocked his path in front of the university’s Madar Bux Hall while he was returning to his residential hall around 9:00pm from the university stadium which is adjacent to the hall.
Two of the miscreants held him tightly while the other one stabbed him with knife at his chest, stomach, and neck, leaving him unconscious on the spot, according to the victim.
‘I returned to my senses after fifteen minutes and contacted my friends over mobile phone who took me to the university’s medical centre,’ he said.
RU proctor Professor Lutfor Rahman told New Age that he had already directed the law enforcers to trace the muggers.
He said that they would take all kinds of necessary steps to prevent such offences on the campus.
Meanwhile, over a hundred teachers, students, and staff of the university formed a human chain in front the university central library on Monday noon protesting against the incident and demanding a safer campus.
The protesters urged the authorities to take necessary steps, including ensuring adequate street lights and setting up closed-circuit cameras in key positions on the campus.
