The Malaysian immigration department arrested at least 266 Bangladeshis on Sunday in continuing crackdown on undocumented migrant workers, said Bangladesh High Commission officials in Kuala Lumpur.
According to the Malaysian immigration department’s report posted on the Facebook the crackdown is on in Kotaraya, Jalan Silang and Pudu Sentralbus.
Bangladesh High Commission’s labour councilor Zahirul Islam told New Age on Monday that the Bangladesh mission was not aware that 266 Bangladeshis had been arrested.
Malaysian newspapers reported that the immigration police arrested at least 5,272 undocumented Bangladeshi workers between January and June. Over eight lakh Bangladeshis are working in Malaysia, said Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training officials.
