Solo show portrays social chaos

Artist Hira Sobahan has portrayed diverse issues of everyday life in his third solo miniature art exhibition titled ‘Jiban O Somoyer Akkhan-1’ under way at Alliance Francaise Dhaka in Dhanmondi.

The 12-day exhibition was inaugurated by state minister for cultural affairs KM Khalid on July 12. Eminent artist professor Rafiqun Nabi and deputy head of mission of French embassy Frank Grutmacher Tecourt were present at the event.

AFD president Abdul Majid delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.

Hira Sobahan has brought about a narrative of the time employing oil pastel, pen ink and acrylic on newsprint. He is particularly conversant with an approach that seeks to combine the concrete and the abstract.

The exhibition features 101 artworks addressing the deprivation and social chaos, which is part of modern lifestyle. Decadence and disasters are also echoed through the employment of sourced images and painterly gestures.

Face to Face-3, Human Rights-1, Connection-1, the Fish-1, Sidore-9, Image of Life-9, Utsob-9,Tradition-4,Rhythm of Nature-1, The Accident-2, The Holy, The Philosopher, Freedom Fighter-1, Dream of Nature-15 are artworks that articulate the above.

Born on May 24, 1970 at Nandibari in Muktagacha of Mymensingh district, Hira Sobahan is a well-known print maker, designer, researcher and writer.

He teaches at department of painting, oriental art and printmaking of fine arts faculty, Rajshahi University.

The exhibition will remain open for all till July 23.
