A Barishal court on Sunday awarded two men to life term imprisonment for violating and strangling a Class VI girl in 2012.
Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Abu Shamim Azad passed the order in presence of accused Munir Hossain, 27, and in absentia of absconding accused Rubel Mira, 26.
They were also fined Tk 1 lakh each otherwise to serve another two years in jail, said special public prosecutor advocate Fayez Ul Huq Fayez.
The victim, Mukta Begum, 11, daughter of Khalilur Rahman Gharami, a resident of Arji Kalikapur village of Babuganj upazila under Barishal Airport police station, was a Class VI student of local Arji-Kalikapur Secondary School.
On July 28, 2012 night, Mukta went missing after she had gone to the neighbouring house to see television programme. The hanging body of the victim was found in the kitchen of the victim›s house on the next day.
Her mother lodged an unnatural death case with Airport police station on July 29. In the post-mortem report of the body, it was found that the victim was raped and strangled to death.
A murder and rape case was lodged against unnamed accused by the police on November 6, 2012.
After investigation, charge sheet was submitted on September 24, 2014, against the aforesaid two accused.
