An office assistant of Rajshahi Passport Office was allegedly abducted from Salbagan area of Rajshahi city on Saturday noon.
The abducted officer was identified as Ranju Lal Sarkar of Habiganj. He lived in a rented house at Salbagan.
Divisional Passport and Visa Office director Azmal Kabir told New Age that Ranju was abducted in front of his colleague computer operator Majibar Rahman.
Quoting Majibar Rahman, the director said Ranju and Majibur were heading towards Salbagan crossing around 12:00pm on Saturday. A silver-coloured microbus stopped in front of them at power house crossing of the area.
‘A group of four or five men got off the microbus and asked them which area it was. The group suddenly whisked Ranju onto the microbus before Majibur could react, and left hurriedly,’ the director added.
An abduction case was filed with Chandrima Police Station in this connection.
Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of the police station told New Age that the wife of the passport office staff filed an abduction case with the police station in the afternoon.
Police said that it was not clear why Ranju was abducted as the family members could not tell them any specific reason.
‘We have checked the CCTV footage near power house crossing, but it was hazy. We are trying to trace him,’ he added.
