Theatre troupe Nagarik Natyangan staged its acclaimed folk play Gohor Badsha O Banechha Pori at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.
The play, directed by Hridi Huq, is based on a folktale involving king Gohor and a fairy named Banechha.
It follows how a determined king Gohor, who is living under a curse due to one of his father’s misdeeds, fights against all odds to win his love Banechha Pori.
The play begins with the hunting mission of king Bishingsha, who ventures into the forest named Gilamight. After accidentally killing a child, he is cursed by the child’s mother that the king would also lose of a son.
In keeping with the curse, Bishingsha’s son Gohor goes missing for years. But, in keeping with another blessing from a sage and due to Gohor’s courage, Gohor manages to return home with his newfound love Banechha.
Asib Chowdhury, Jewel Johur, Hridi Huq and others acted in the play.
