Chinese national held with gold bars at Dhaka airport

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate officials on Sunday seized 28 gold bars from a Chinese national at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here.

The gold bars, weighing 3,250 grams and worth around Tk 1.62 crore, were seized from the possession of Chinese national Xian Zhu in the green channel area of the airport.

CIID director general Md Shahidul Islam said that the gold bars were recovered from the luggage of the Chinese national.

A case was lodged with the Airport Police Station in this connection.

In separate incident, the Airport Armed Police Battalion seized 334 cartons of contraband foreign cigarettes worth Tk 10 lakh from the possession of a passenger in the early hours of Sunday.

The arrested was identified as Md Abdullah Al Mamun, 31, a resident of Raozan in Chattogram.

Airport Armed Police Battalion superintendant of police (operations and media) Md Alamgir Hossain Shimul confirmed the matter.
