Suspected gamblers attacked the house of a journalist couple on Wednesday night leaving four inmates injured.
Later, private-run television Channel i Sylhet correspondent Sadikur Rahman Saki filed a case for attacking his house and injuring his relatives, including his wife Suborna Hamid, senior staff correspondent of regional daily newspaper Dainik Sabuj Sylhet.
Biman Bandar police officer-in-charge Shahab Uddin said Saki filed the case around 11:00pm on Wednesday against 13 accused, including 9 named and 4 unnamed persons.
The named accused are Kamrul, 23, Mamun, 37, Nizam, 32, Soleman, 23, Sheikh Shahnur alias Hakkai, 21, Kamal Hossain, 48, his wife Nazma Begum, 38, daughter Amina, 22, and Kuthina, 19, residents of Mallika Residential Area at Goaipara under Biman Bandar police in the city.
On Wednesday afternoon, a group of gamblers attacked the Goaipara residence of Saki, injuring his wife Suborna, her mother Jahanara Khanam Milon, ex-councilor of Sylhet City Corporation and district Mahila Awami League joint-general secretary, son Shahriar Shishir, 14, and aunt Razia Khanam Dolan.
Seriously injured Suborna was undergoing treatment at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital till Thursday afternoon and the rest injured were given treatment at the hospital, the hospital assistant director Abul Kalam Azad said.
Stating he was not at the residence during the attack, Saki told New Age that the police had raided a sitting place of local gamblers on Wednesday noon and the gamblers attacked his house after the police raid suspecting that journalists had informed the police in this regard.
