Bangladesh Nationalist Party MP Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan on Monday demanded unconditional release of BNP’s jailed chairperson Khaleda Zia in Jatiya Sangsad.
While taking part in the general discussion on the budget for 2018-19 fiscal in parliament, he said that Khaleda Zia was not allowing for bail as part of tricks of the government.
He said that Khaleda Zia was a victim of the political conspiracy of the ruling Awami League as a result she not getting bail in billable cases.
He also demanded withdrawal of ‘ghost cases’ filed against BNP’s leaders and activists across the country.
He said that during a pre-poll dialogue the prime minister Sheikh Hasina assured them to withdraw the ghost cases. But the cases still existed in their names.
He also said that there was no real democracy in the country.
Partners of ruling Awami League were also now talking about the absence of democracy, he added.
Earlier, on June 11, while talking in point of order BNP lawmaker Rumeen Farhana criticised ruling Awami League for not giving bail to BNP’s jailed chairperson Khaleda Zia, who has been in jail since February 8, 2018 upon conviction in a graft case.
