The preliminary round of the first edition UNICEF-BFF Under-16 National Women’s Championship will kick-off at six separate venues across the country today. A total of 39 district teams, out of 64 districts of the country, will take part in the knock out basis preliminary round to qualify the eight-team final round that will be held in Dhaka in July. Six zonal venues - Rangpur, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Jessore, Khagrachari and Mymensingh – will host a total of 33 matches. After the preliminary round, six zonal champions and two best runners-up teams will play the league basis final round split into two groups. This championship is a talent hunt programme, jointly run by Bangladesh Football Federation and its women’s football development partner United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. The BFF paid coaches will watch all the matches of the preliminary and final rounds to select the talents and grade them in A, B and C categories before sending them for a two-month long camp outside Dhaka.
