Theatre troupe Theatre Art Unit staged its 32nd production titled ‘Anuddharonio’ at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday.
The play, adapted and directed by Mohammad Bari, is based on late popular Indian Bengali poet Buddhadev Bose’s short story with the same title.
‘This was a routine show of the play. We will stage more shows in future,’ Mohammad Bari, director of the play, told New Age.
The play revolves around talks between a poet and his fan named Amit. As the play moves forward the two get into an argument.
Amit argues that contemporary poets and intellectuals are afraid to criticise the government. He argues with the poet about state control, society, politics, literature, art and other issues.
Amit at one stage takes the poet hostage. Police, Rab and the other law enforcement agencies come to rescue the poet and surround Amit’s house.
Amit brings out a gun and aims it at the poet. The stage becomes dark and a gunshot is heard.
The play ends with a cliffhanger, leaving the audience in suspense.
Mohammad Bari, Mehmood Siddiqui, Fouzia Karim Anu and others acted in the play.
