Bangladesh Nationalist Party vice-chairman Selima Rahman and senior leader Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku have been included in the standing committee of the party.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made an announcement of the party decision at a press conference at the party central office in the capital on Wednesday.
He said that some posts of BNP standing committee remained vacant during the sixth national council of the party held on March 19, 2016.
With the inclusion of the two new leaders, the number of the members of the highest policy making body of the party reaches 16.
As per the party constitution, the number of the BNP standing committee members is 19, including the party chairperson and secretary general as ex-officio members.
In 2016 council, the party nominated 17 standing committee members, including two ex-officio members.
Later, the number became 14 as three standing committee members - ASM Hannan Shah, MK Anwar and Tariqul Islam died at different times.
The current standing committee members are - imprisoned BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, acting chairman Tarique Rahman, secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar, Mahbubur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam Miah, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Selima Rahman and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.
