Border Guard Bangladesh personnel arrested four suspected gold smugglers along with 41 gold bars weighing 4.780 kilograms at Amrakhali check post of Benapole Port police station on Sunday.
The raid was conducted between 6:40am and 7:30am, said Lieutenant Colonel Selim Reza, commanding officer of 49 BGB Battalion.
The border guards seized gold bars while raiding two Benapole bound buses of Desh Travels and Eagle Paribahan, the BGB official said. The gold was being smuggled to India, he added.
The arrested are Anisur Rahman, 24, of Tekerhat under Rajair in Madaripur, Riaz Mollah, 24, of Phulbarigate in Khulna city, Sabuj Mridha, 21, of Tona under Naragati in Narail, and Tanvir Zaman, 18, of Barapalla under Bhanga in Faridpur.
