Planning minister MA Mannan on Saturday laid stress on enhancing Bangladesh’s research capability research on rivers and it was necessary to acknowledge that rivers and people cannot be separated
He also assured that he would personally look into possibilities of ensuring more funding for the academia in Bangladesh in this regard.
The minister came up with the remarks at the concluding session of the eighth conference of South and Southeast Asian Association for the Study of Culture and Religion at University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh campus in the capital’s Dhanmondi, said a release.
Acting British high commissioner Kanbar Hossein-Bor focus on how rivers had contributed to civilizations across the world and continued to bridge different cultures.
Eighth SSEASR president Amarjiva Lochan, ULAB pro-vice-chancellor Shamsad Mortuza and ULAB board of trustees special adviser Imran Rahman also spoke, among others. ULAB vice-chancellor HM Jahirul Haque presided over the concluding ceremony.
Participants from about 30 countries in the conference focused on mutual help and cooperation among the universities of the region on research on rivers, the release said.
A total of 170 research papers from 30 countries were presented in the conference along with 37 parallel academic sessions under 15 subthemes.
