Finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday proposed a special allocation of Tk 20 crore to the Bangladesh Football Federation for the development of country’s football during the annual national budget for the 2019-20 fiscal year.
‘In the budget for FY 2019-20, I propose to make a special allocation of Tk 20 crore to Bangladesh Football Federation for the development of football in the country,’ said Kamal during his budget speech at the Jatiya Sangasad Bhaban.
BFF, earlier, submitted a proposal to the finance ministry and youth and sports ministry seeking Tk 50 crore as a special allocation to meet the expenditure of players and coaches and arrange international and domestic tournaments.
‘We expected more allocation from the government for the development of football. However, we’re happy with this special allocation,’ said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag.
An amount of Tk 1,488 crore has been proposed for the youth and sports ministry, including Tk 20 crore for the BFF.
The proposed allocation is less by 31 crore of the previous FY 2018-19 revised budget while less by Tk 10 crore of the proposed budget of the last fiscal year.
