Jatiya Party chairman and former military dictator HM Ershad has expressed his desire to be buried at the Military Graveyard in Banani.
Ershad’s younger brother and JP acting chairman GM Quader recently told New Age that the ailing JP chairman chose this burial site from among the three options he (Quader) and other senior party leaders proposed.
Ershad instructed them last month to search for the place for his resting place.
‘We offered three places – Banani Graveyard, Military Graveyard in Banani and Jatiya Sangsad Graveyard,’ Quader said.
‘We will talk to the government soon about his desire,’ he went on.
Leader of the opposition in the 11th parliament, Ershad has been suffering from liver complications and low haemoglobin for quite some time.
In 1981 he, in uniform, usurped power from a democratically-elected BNP government and ruled the country till 1990 as a military dictator.
