Manikganj district administration celebrated national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 120th birth anniversary organising a discussion programme and a cultural show at Teota Zamindarbari premises on Saturday.
The speakers urged the government to establish a university and Nazrul-Promila Institute at Shibalaya upazila of Manikganj district to preserve the memories of Nazrul and his wife Promila Devi.
Deputy commissioner of Manikganj SM Ferdous was present as the chief guest and deputy director of Nazrul Institute poet Rezauddin Stalin was present as the special guest at the programme, presided over by Shibalaya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) AFM Firoz Mahmud.
Professor of Dhaka University Niranjan Adhikari delivered the keynote speech.
Besides, associate professor of department of history of Jahangirnagar University Dr Sultana Akter, president of Nazrul Promila Gobeshana Parishad Atikur Rahman and headmaster of Teota Academy Mozammel Haque, among others, spoke at the event.
Following the discussion, a cultural function was held where artistes entertained the audience presenting songs and poems.
Ramisa Anjum Kanak, Bayezed Khan Palash, Sanchita Pandit Priya, Asma Begum, Munshi Abdus Salam, Manindra Biswas, Sadhana Saha, Maisha Rahman Tisha, Jafrin Jahan Jyoti, Marufa Jannat Fatima, Swarna Akter and Ustad Dulal Kumar Das rendered Hamd, Naat and Ghazals penned by Nazrul and ASM Ashrafuzzaman Tulan, Swadesh Biswas recited Nazrul’s popular poems to the delight of the audience.
