‘Drug peddler’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in an alleged gunfight with police on Marine Drive Road at Teknaf in Cox's Bazar early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Hanif, 38, son of Kashem Ali in Natmora area of Teknaf.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said Hanif was arrested on Wednesday from the upazila.

Police later conducted a drive in the area along with him to recover firearms and Yaba.

Criminals opened fire as soon as police reached the area, triggering a gunfight, the OC said.

Hanif was caught in the line of fire. Later, he was taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
