A new air-conditioned bus service of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation, BRTC in short, was launched on Dhaka-Narayanganj route on Wednesday.
Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated a total of 15 buses on the 18 kilometre route that would run between Bangabandhu National Stadium and Mandalpara through Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover, Signboard and Chashara, said a press release issued by the
ministry.
In his speech, the minister said the buses were bought under the Indian line of credit and each bus cost around Tk 67 lakh.
The number of buses on the route would be increased gradually, he added.
Fare between Dhaka and Chashara was fixed at Tk 50 and Dhaka and Mondalpara at Tk 55, said officials, adding that the service would be operated by the corporation’s Narayanganj bus depot.
The minister also said that once all 600 buses and 500 trucks were included in the BRTC fleet, the public transport facilities would see a considerable expansion.
Till date 480 trucks and 179 buses were included to the corporation fleet, he added.
The inauguration ceremony was attended, among others, by the corporation chairman Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan.
