PM reshuffles cabinet 5 months after taking office

Responsibilities of Tajul, Jabbar curtailed

Five months after taking office, the prime minister, in a move to reorganise her cabinet on Sunday, curtailed the portfolios of two ministers and designated additional responsibilities to two state ministers who were working as deputies to the ministers at their respective ministries.
Additionally, the portfolio of state minister for health and family welfare was also changed.
Following the reshuffle, minister for local government, rural development and cooperatives Md Tajul Islam has now been given the responsibility of local government division only while state minister for the same ministry Swapan Bhattacharjee has been placed in charge of rural development and cooperatives division.
Minister for posts, telecommunications and information technology Mustafa Jabbar has been given the responsibility of the posts and telecommunications division while state minister for the ministry Zunaid Ahmed Palak will head the information and communication technology division.
The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification to this effect, signed by cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam.
In another gazette notification, state minister for health and family welfare Md Murad Hasan has been given the portfolio of information ministry as state minister.
The prime minister redistributed the offices of ministers and state ministers as per the Rules of Business, 1996.
This was for the first time prime minister Sheikh Hasina reorganised her cabinet she formed on January 7 this year for the third consecutive term.
