Veteran filmmaker Delowar Jahan Jhontu is going to direct a film on late Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Nusrat, an 18-year old madrasa student, was set on fire on April 6 as she refused to withdraw her allegation against her abuser and Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasah principal Siraj-ud-Doula. She died at the burn and plastic surgery unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10.
The shooting of the film will start after two months, the filmmaker informed New Age.
‘Nusrat’s story is a heart-wrenching one and the whole nation mourned her unfortunate death. I’m making this film so that it raises awareness to end such heinous crimes against women,’ stated Jhontu.
The filmmaker further confirmed the film will be a full-length one which will take a year to complete and the plot will revolve around the life of Nusrat.
‘I will go to her village home, talk to her parents and friends to find out more about her life,’ he said.
Delowar Jahan Jhontu has produced about 35 films and directed about 61 full-length Bangali feature films till date. Some of his most popular films are Haathi Amar Sathi, Harano Prem and Nagh Mahal.
